Medical treatment of Domini Sherpa

The treatment of Domini Sherpa is finished. She is home again.
On July 20th Domini left Kathmandu, together with her father, to go home. Inside the house she is not using crutches at all. Outside the house she uses the crutches only on longer stretches and when she is feeling not comfortable on a more difficult path. For the time being she will take them with her when going to school in Duble.

Changing habits in Duble?

In Kathmandu, Kame Sherpa attended an instruction course on how to build improved stoves from clay. In Duble and Bhotechaur, he already made 5 of these clay ovens, together with the villagers.
This shows that using a stove is getting popular in the area.
We like to believe that our gift of improved stoves, made from steel, has been important to persuade the people to change their habit of using open fires for cooking.
A big advantage of the clay stove is its price. That is less than half of that for a steel stove. The clay stove has less surface that is hot and consequently might be a little bit less efficient, but that property brings also the advantage that little children are less prone to burn themselves.
More important than the differences between the two brands of stoves is what they have in common. That is much less smoke in the houses.
