We were informed about the death of Mathbir Tamang en Ngima Dawa Sherpa.

Mathbir Tamang
Mathbir was one of the 16 children at the Jana Jyoti Primary School in Duble, who we sponsored with educational aids. Finally his death put him out of his misery, because he had an incurable form of cancer. It is difficult to accept the death of such a young child.

Ngima Dawa Sherpa
The death of Ngima Dawa Sherpa was unexpected. As a manager of Multiadventure he was very active, being the contact person for the clients. When Kame informed me about his death I was really upset, because I liked him much. I hope that the Multiadventure family finds a competent successor. I also hope that somebody takes over his social activities.

Yangyi Sherpa
From the beginning of this academic year we sponsor Yangyi Sherpa. She started in the first nursery class, L.K.G., at the Himalaya International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS).
She can walk to the school together with her older sister Doma, who was promoted to class 4, passing her exams with good marks.

Until now I have written down her name as Engi. However, the admission papers of HIMS have shown me how Nepali do the transliteration. It will take some time before I have corrected all entries.

Furi Sherpa
It came true, Furi Sherpa did not succeed to pass the exams at HIMS. He was detained in class 6. He switched to the Kumari Boarding Higher Secondary School (KEBS). After an admission examination he was admitted to class 7.
The school advocates an other method for education. This method is called 'learning-by-doing'. We hope and expect that this method is more suited for Phuri.

In fact we were looking for a vocational school, a school in which the students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular job. We were surprised to discover that there are almost no vocational schools in Nepal and existing opportunities accept only students who, at least, passed class 8. So, Phuri could only choose from a) looking for a job e.g. in the trekking business and follow language- and cook- or guide-courses to improve his position or b) looking for a school, better suited for him, where he can pass class 8, after which he has more and other options.
The school is situated in Boudha, Kathmandu and has a website: http://www.kumari.edu.np

Dublelee Milijuli Samuha
We decided to start sponsoring the secretariat of Dublelee Milijuli Samuha (DMG). We sponsor them with 150 Euro yearly. It is very convenient to have a discussion partner, who is readily available, good in English language and can use e-mail. Corresponding in a language, that not you natural language can be very time consuming. Time which also could have been used to earn additional income for the family. The secretarial work for DMG cannot be done in some spare hours. Not only the sponsors have questions and like to be informed, but also the government wants to know what NGO's are doing. Project proposals need to be translated to send to the government and for discussion with the people in the village.
DMG has a competent person, Pradeep Tamang, who works and lives in Kathmandu.
