Schools in the Duble area
There are two schools, the Jana Jyoti Primary School in Duble and the Shree Demba Primary School in Bhitte.
End 2007, the Jana Jyoti School was attended by 180 children, 93 boys and 87 girls and the Shree Denba school by 37 children, 20 boys and 17 girls.
The Shree Denba school was established in 1993 by HT guide Ngawang Sherpa.
Both schools are government schools, which offer 8 classes. At a few hours walking distance, in Kiji, there is a school with 10 classes.
The Shree Demba school has found an excellent sponsor in the Dutch Foundation
'School in the Himalaya'.
We focus therefore on the Jana Jyoti Primary School in Duble. This school was established in 1962 and now, in 2013, it has 107 children, five teachers, four full-time and one part-time.
The part-timer has extra income, because he has a small shop.
The Head of School, Homaraj Tamang, can devote only a portion of his time to education, because he has to do all the organizational work.
It is clear that under these circumstances the provision of quality education is barely possible. With the new schoolyear from 2013 there is a new employee who will be responsible a.o. the administration.
The school is very tight with cash because it recently started with two nursery classes. This activity receives no money from the government.
The importance of the nursery classes is not only that all children start learning at a young age, but it also means that an older sister or brother can go to school more regularly. When there are small children at home the older ones often have to mind them when parents are away at work.
The following photos of the school were made during a visit in March 2008. The situation that you observe there is quite normal for a school in a rural area.

Classroom: perhaps there will be a wooden floor in future.
.... and even glass in the windows and a wooden door, so that it is less cold in winter.
The toilet building is ready, but .....
... the wait is still on for the water flush.
